About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Consultant to join our dynamic inpatient consult team at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, a comprehensive medical center located in Newton, Massachusetts.

As a member of our psychiatric consult service, you will provide expert-level consultation, with management recommendations, to medical, surgical, and ED providers managing geriatric patients with acute and chronic psychiatric symptoms and disorders co-morbid with their medical, and surgical conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct evaluations and examinations of medical, surgical, and ED patients with co-morbid mental health issues at the request of the primary teams.
  • Engage in independent decision-making and recommendations on clinical care, including diagnostic impressions, development of appropriate treatment plans, and medications recommendations when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with primary and multi-specialty providers as appropriate.
  • Provide direct psychiatric care, when appropriate, utilizing brief psychotherapeutic interventions, including motivational interviewing and supportive therapy to the geriatric population.
  • Identify teaching opportunities and provide appropriate education to geriatric patients and families.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure as Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • CPR Training required.
  • 3 years of Psychiatry experience (as an RN or NP) preferred.
