Position Summary:
The Peer Support Specialist plays a crucial role within the treatment team, providing essential support to individuals striving for independence and recovery. Drawing from personal experiences, this position offers clients compassion, guidance, and practical advice as they navigate their recovery journey. The Peer Support Specialist enriches the clinical team's expertise with lived experiences and relatable insights.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize personal recovery experiences to assist peers in reintegrating into society, facilitating early intervention, and providing comprehensive peer recovery support.
- Accompany clients to various appointments, including housing searches and support sessions, ensuring they have the necessary assistance for their recovery journey.
- Collaborate with the Case Management team to help clients create personalized recovery plans that leverage their strengths and available resources.
- Support clients in establishing and maintaining self-help groups, as well as connecting them with existing community support networks.
- Work alongside the Case Management Team to identify and address barriers that may hinder clients' progress in employment, housing, and sobriety.
- Perform additional duties as required to support the overall mission of the organization.
Qualifications:
Requirements:
- Successful completion of a fingerprint clearance and background check, including verification of criminal history, personal references, and educational background.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Experience:
- Demonstrated personal experience in recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Possession of a valid California driver's license with a clean driving record.
