Overview

The Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a skilled Geriatrician to lead its Division of Geriatrics. As a key member of the department, this individual will play a vital role in advancing the academic program and contributing to the university's mission to provide high-quality care.

About the Role

This is a full-time equivalent position with a 12-month appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to dedicate approximately 90% of their time to clinical duties, managing a panel of patients throughout the continuum of care. This includes ensuring timely, appropriate, high-quality, and cost-effective care, as well as creating and enhancing systems to coordinate patient care.

The Geriatrician will also be responsible for teaching and mentoring Fellows, residents, medical students, and non-physician professionals. Additionally, they will contribute to research initiatives and provide service of the highest quality to the people of Virginia and beyond.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a complex panel of patients across various care settings, including nursing facilities, home-based care, and inpatient consult services.
  • Develop and implement systems to ensure coordinated and evidence-based care, promoting optimal patient outcomes.
  • Teach and mentor healthcare professionals, including Fellows, residents, medical students, and non-physician staff.
  • Contribute to research efforts, exploring innovative approaches to geriatric care and education.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, focusing on improving patient care and reducing healthcare costs.
Requirements
  • Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams, including nurse practitioners and pharmacists.
  • A solid understanding of the geriatrician's role and function, with direct experience managing complex inpatient and outpatient geriatric patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in diverse environments and foster a culture of inclusivity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Geriatric fellowship training.
  • Experience with electronic health records, preferably EPIC.
Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, estimated at $250,000 - $300,000 annually, based on national averages for similar positions in the United States. Additionally, the university provides a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
