The Hospital Staff Nurse II is distinguished from the Hospital Staff Nurse I by the depth of knowledge and skill required, as well as the complexity of tasks performed with minimal supervision.
The specific responsibilities may vary based on the assignment, and all nursing clinical practices will be overseen by the Chief Nursing Officer or their designated Registered Nurse.Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and document patient data according to established protocols.
- Analyze complex assessment data to identify physiological and/or psychosocial risk factors; accurately record and report findings.
- Develop and contribute to nursing action plans based on identified patient issues and observable responses, integrating the medical care plan.
- Utilize a combination of education and extensive experience to provide diverse nursing action options; make informed nursing decisions based on patient assessments and clinical data interpretation.
- Establish nursing diagnoses and initiate appropriate interventions; create a comprehensive written care plan and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions, adjusting care plans as necessary.
- Deliver therapeutic care for patients with multi-system diseases or treatment complications; collaborate with physicians to prioritize patient care.
- Anticipate potential patient care challenges and respond to unit changes by prioritizing emergencies and unusual occurrences.
- Execute and document the nursing process in accordance with scientific principles and hospital policies as dictated by patient assignments.
- Implement medical and nursing care plans while coordinating patient care activities with nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals.
- Carry out unit-specific nursing practice tasks as assigned.
- Assess patient and family understanding and develop tailored teaching methods and plans; follow through on educational initiatives regarding testing, procedures, disease processes, and health promotion.
- Support patients and families in managing the stress associated with illness and hospitalization.
- Participate in patient care rounds and interdisciplinary conferences.
- Conduct quality assurance monitoring; analyze monitoring results and engage in designing improvement plans for identified issues.
- Mentor and train staff members, orient new personnel, and serve as a resource for less experienced clinicians.
- Complete all required competencies, mandatory training, and educational coursework as stipulated by the hospital.
- Demonstrate clinical expertise in caring for the populations served by the organization.
- Cerner experience is required.
- RN License is mandatory.
- Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience.
- ACLS certification is necessary.
- Advanced NRP certification is required.
- AWHONN Advanced FHM certification is essential.
- AWHONN Maternal Fetal Triage Index (MFTI) certification is required.
- Employees must adhere to all health requirements set by the organization.
- Maintain a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
- Depending on the assignment, incumbents may need to hold specific competency certificates as a condition of employment.
A comprehensive understanding of advanced nursing theories, techniques, and practices, as well as medical terminology, instruments, and the effects of medications, is essential for this role.
