We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Athletic Trainer to join our team at Prisma Health. As an Athletic Trainer, you will play a critical role in the management of patient/athlete visits within our clinic, performing a range of clinical responsibilities in support of our physicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Care
    • Interact with patients and others involved in the patient/athlete's care to incorporate an interdisciplinary treatment approach for coordinated quality care.
    • Obtain initial patient history, vital signs, and/or follow-up status and present to physician in preparation for their exam of patient/athlete.
    • Request and organize ancillary studies (X-rays, MRI, CT scans, lab work, etc.) and present for physician for their review.
    • Prepare patient for physician arrival, injection, or other office procedure specific to each physician preference.
    • Perform knee ligament laxity or other joint tests or measurements upon direction of the physician.
    • Organize and disburse patient lab work or other office tests as directed.
    • Apply and remove casts, splints, etc. as directed by physician.
    • Teach, counsel, and communicate with patients, athletes, their families, coaches, and others to achieve the desired outcomes.
  • Documentation and Communication
    • Comply with departmental policies for documentation.
    • Responsible for taking office notes when directed by physicians.
    • Responsible for organization and disbursement of incoming medical records, reports, etc. as they arrive at the clinic.
    • Report of patients/athletes sent to MD, follow-up services ordered, and where the service was performed.
  • Community Outreach and Education
    • Volunteer for community events.
    • Coordinate and present at local/state/regional level on Athletic Training Topics.
    • Support and provide educational material to athletes, coaches, parents, community at large on injury management and prevention.
    • Coordinate sessions with local EMT/Emergency Services for coordination of care for injured athlete.
    • Coordinate with other school personnel and parents/guardians to get HIPPA Consent and Consent to Treat signed and back in a timely manner.
  • Supervision and Mentorship
    • Provide supervision and delegate tasks to Student Athletic Trainers and/or Intern Athletic Trainer.
    • Mentor new staff members and serve as a consultant for new staff, as needed.
  • Maintenance and Equipment
    • Responsible for basic daily and weekly maintenance, general cleanliness, and upkeep of stock in rooms.
    • Responsible for preparation of exam rooms for patient visits.
    • Empty and dispose of biohazard waste and sharps containers as directed.
    • Assist with care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies, as needed.

Requirements

  • South Carolina DHEC Athletic Training Certificate required.
  • National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) required.
  • No experience is required.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position working days at our Hillcrest/Simpsonville Medical Campus.
