Job Summary

The Plumber will work as a part of the Facilities Operations & Maintenance team at Oregon State University (OSU) to provide plumbing services to departments and programs across campus. The Facilities Services Plumbing unit is committed to quality, efficiency, and customer service oriented operational maintenance, repair, and construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Unclog drains, operate various snakes, augers, jet machines, and assist contractors with repairs as needed.
  • Troubleshoot plumbing issues and order parts as required.
  • Perform repairs on water lines, drain lines, water heaters, faucets, drinking fountains, water coolers, flushometers, and install water filter setups and replace filters as needed.
  • Have basic knowledge of steam and condensate systems or be willing to learn and assist with repair/replacement of traps, valves, etc. as needed.
  • Other service calls as required.
  • Demo type work including remove, repair, replacement of radiators, steam and electric water heaters, valves, traps, etc.
Requirements
  • A valid Oregon Plumber's license.
  • One year of experience as a journey-level plumber or completion of an approved apprenticeship program.
  • Ability to effectively operate a pipe threader, metal cutting saw, bolt threading machine, electric & acetylene welding equipment, brakes, shears, rolls, elbow machines, barfolders, emery wheels, grinders, and power shears.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Experience promoting a respectful and equitable work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years commercial/institutional/industrial experience.
  • Experience in repairing and maintaining steam and condensate systems.
  • Metal Fabrication experience.
  • Experience in repairing and maintaining hydronic systems.
Working Conditions/Work Schedule
  • Working Schedule is 6:00 AM-4:30 PM Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday.
  • Most duties of this position include continuous overhead work, bending, stooping, lifting, standing, working in extreme weather conditions, and may require working a flexible schedule (including weekends, evenings, and holidays and during inclement weather).
  • This position is exposed to noxious odors and fluids on a regular basis.
  • Must routinely work in or visit campus job sites without ADA accessibility.
  • Works on scaffolding and ladders at various heights.
  • Routine work in attics, crawl spaces, confined spaces, and the University tunnel system.
