Nurse Role in the School Environment

In this role, you will play a critical part in maintaining the health and well-being of students within the Longview Independent School District. As a School Nurse, you will be responsible for providing essential healthcare services, including administering medications, conducting vision and hearing screenings, and assessing student problems. You will also serve as a liaison between the school, physicians, and parents to ensure seamless communication regarding student health needs.


Estimated Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 per year.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement effective health promotion programs for students.
  2. Conduct regular health assessments to identify student health defects.
  3. Communicate regularly with teachers, parents, and medical professionals to ensure comprehensive student care.
  4. Supervise and train nurse aides and LVNs in clinic procedures.
  5. Maintain accurate records and reports, including immunization records and health records.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a school setting or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of health appraisal and ability to identify student health defects.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
