Compensation:
PSE Level 5 Salary Schedule - $23.45 per hour
Role Overview:
This position is essential for ensuring the cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and security of the assigned educational facility. Responsibilities include preparing the premises for both academic and community events as required.
Key Responsibilities:
1.
Maintain cleanliness in designated areas of the school to ensure a sanitary and safe environment conducive to learning; tasks include vacuuming, dusting, mopping, sweeping, cleaning restrooms and showers, disposing of waste, changing light bulbs, replenishing soap and paper supplies, removing graffiti, and providing comprehensive cleaning services.
2. Secure the building by opening and closing doors and managing the alarm system according to established protocols. Stay vigilant regarding after-hours facility users and report any emergencies or unusual situations.

Set up and dismantle various equipment and furniture for events, assemblies, food services, and public use of school facilities; assist in moving equipment and furniture as necessary to accommodate the needs of students, staff, and visitors.
Provide emergency cleaning assistance to teachers, students, and administrators as needed.4. Foster effective communication with students, parents, staff, and the public to ensure safety, security, and positive public relations.
5.
Conduct thorough summer cleaning of the facility, which includes floor refinishing, furniture care, equipment maintenance, painting, and repairs to prepare for the upcoming school year.
6.
Perform minor repairs and spot cleaning, such as painting, plastering, stain removal, fixing furniture legs, replacing tiles, clearing drains, and addressing leaks.
7. Conduct security inspections of the facility, including perimeter checks, doors, and windows.
8. Pressure wash locker rooms, showers, and kitchen areas as necessary.
9. Clean windows as required.
Additional Responsibilities:
10. Operate or utilize hydraulic lifts, ladders, scaffolding, blowers, floor polishers, and other equipment.
11. May be tasked with operating building heating and ventilation controls and monitoring fire alarms.
12. Move supplies and materials as directed and may be responsible for signing for and receiving deliveries.
13. Provide off-hours access to student lockers when necessary.
14. Order and stock custodial supplies as assigned.
15. Assist with grounds maintenance as needed, including sweeping walkways, litter removal, snow and ice clearance, and maintaining an attractive school environment; may involve minor weeding.
Other Duties:
16. Participate in various district committees and/or departmental teams, demonstrating appropriate and cooperative behavior while safeguarding confidential information in line with district ethical standards.
17. Perform related duties consistent with the role's scope and intent.
Reporting Structure:
Reports to the Assistant Director or Manager of Facilities and receives guidance from the head custodian and school administrator as assigned.
Mental Demands:
This role may involve frequent interruptions and requires the ability to manage a wide range of behaviors from students, staff, and the public. Flexibility in responding to varying needs and occasional interactions with distressed individuals is essential.
Physical Demands:
The position requires prolonged standing and may involve moving heavy objects exceeding fifty (50) pounds. The role includes operating power equipment such as buffers and scrubbers and may necessitate precautions against exposure to cleaning chemicals and fumes. Additionally, outdoor work may be required in inclement weather, and precautions should be taken when dealing with bodily fluids or performing after-hours security checks.

Education and Experience
Applicants should possess the education, training, skills, and experience necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, with prior experience in cleaning equipment and techniques preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to identify cleaning compounds and materials, learn to operate various cleaning equipment and tools, and perform routine repairs and maintenance, including basic painting, carpentry, plumbing, and general upkeep. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for establishing effective working relationships with students, staff, and the public.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Fingerprinting and background checks are required to ensure no convictions related to the abuse or neglect of minors. Completion of training in the district's infection control plan is mandatory. A valid Washington state driver's license may be required.
