About the Role

We are seeking a Patient Care Specialist to join our team in the Trauma and Surgical ICU department at the University of New Mexico Hospitals. As a Patient Care Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing direct, non-invasive, and routine patient care and related support services within an in-patient or out-patient environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing basic patient care, including taking and recording vital signs, such as temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake-output measurements
  • Assisting patients with activities of daily living (ADL), including meals, ambulation, hygiene, linen change, and toileting
  • Maintaining therapeutic plans of care and minute-to-minute care of patients who are at extreme risk to themselves or others
  • Completing documentation as required on the Electronic Medical Record
  • Completing specific skills listed in the "University of New Mexico, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel Specific Functions" Matrix
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A High School or GED Equivalent
  • A Certificate in CNA or Cert EMT-B (ICU) or 1 semester accredited nursing program
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuer within 30 days
Working Conditions

This is a heavy work position that requires exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. The working conditions include exposure to chemicals, bio-hazardous materials requiring PPE, and limited access to the med room with medication administration policy adherence.
