Position Overview
In this position, you will deliver and oversee direct healthcare services for a defined patient demographic under indirect supervision.
Essential Qualifications for the Emergency Medicine Physician:
Applicants must possess a medical degree with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, which may include residency in a pertinent medical specialty. Required certifications include State of New Mexico and Federal DEA Certification, along with a Medical Specialty License or Certification. Candidates should be Board Certified or Board Eligible in their respective medical specialty. Verification of educational credentials and licensure will be necessary upon selection.
Key Responsibilities of the Emergency Medicine Physician:
- Conduct thorough observations, assessments, and documentation of patient symptoms and progress.
- Supervise, mentor, and educate clinical professionals and students in your area of expertise.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment methodologies.
- Understand legal and ethical standards governing medical care delivery.
- Prescribe medications and instruct patients on their proper use.
- Familiarity with community medical diagnostic and patient care services relevant to your specialty.
- Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and infection control protocols.
- Develop and present educational programs and workshops.
- Comprehend accreditation and certification standards applicable to the role.
- Exhibit the ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.

About the Emergency Medicine Team:
The University of New Mexico's Department of Emergency Medicine is in search of on-call physicians. These physicians will not only support our Emergency Medicine residency program but also provide clinical care across both academic and community hospital settings.
The Department boasts a team of 72 full-time and part-time attending physicians and is home to a distinguished Emergency Medicine Residency, EMS Academy, and Center for Disaster Medicine. UNM Health System stands as New Mexico's sole Level I Trauma Center, housing the only Burn Center and the state's first Comprehensive Stroke Center. Our providers specialize in over 150 areas, managing 900,000 outpatient visits, 22,000 surgical cases, and 100,000 emergency room visits annually.
