Position Overview

The Entry-Level Consumer Loan Processor will be responsible for a variety of essential tasks:

  • Manage a substantial volume of loan applications received through multiple channels, including online submissions, phone inquiries, and in-branch visits.
  • Examine applications and request necessary documentation to validate income and collateral, such as pay stubs and tax returns, while assessing the eligibility of applicants and their collateral.
  • Identify financial needs and assist in promoting financial wellness by offering insights and advocacy regarding suitable products and services.
  • Utilize credit scoring and analysis in accordance with Consumer Lending Guidelines, applying sound judgment to make lending decisions that align with the best interests of members and the credit union.
  • Prepare loans for documentation and funding, ensuring all documents and terms are accurate, and that all forms, including DMV paperwork, are completed and signed with minimal errors.
  • Collaborate with branches, internal teams, and members to enhance the lending operations of the credit union.
  • In the event of a loan denial, provide clear explanations to members and offer guidance on improving their chances for future approvals.
  • Ensure compliance with established Service Level Agreements (SLAs) within the Consumer Lending Department, which includes monitoring the timeliness of application processing, follow-ups, decisions, and funding times.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent educational background.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a loan processor or originator in a computerized setting.
  • Solid understanding of consumer lending principles, regulations, and practices.
  • Proficient in collecting and analyzing data, including income documentation.
  • Ability to interpret and discuss credit report data and codes effectively.
  • Proven ability to promote and cross-sell additional products and services.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Basic mathematical skills, proficiency with personal computers, and 10-key operation.
  • Strong critical thinking abilities.
