Job Responsibilities

As a Substance Abuse Counselor, you will be responsible for conducting client interviews and assessments, evaluating client response to treatment, recommending modifications to the treatment plan, assisting with caseloads, developing individualized treatment plans, and preparing individually appropriate goals, interventions, and necessary support.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a helping profession from an accredited college or university. Some previous counseling experience, particularly in substance use disorder or mental health treatment, is preferred. You must also be able to obtain Georgia Department of Corrections clearance to work in the correctional institution.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to work in a correctional facility, walk and move about the facilities for up to two hours at a time, monitor and interact with clients, exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and use a keyboard and video display terminal to receive, retrieve, and/or audit information and data.
