We are seeking a Childcare Educator and Preschool Assistant to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Dayton. This part-time, non-exempt position offers a competitive hourly rate of $12.00-$14.00.

About the Role:

The Childcare Educator and Preschool Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of classroom activities that foster the social, physical, spiritual, and mental development of our young participants. This role will prioritize the safety and well-being of the children, ensuring a nurturing environment that encourages growth and learning.

Essential Functions:

  1. Curriculum Development: Assist in creating and implementing weekly lesson plans tailored to the children's needs, interests, and developmental levels.
  2. Team Collaboration: Work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher, Site Administrator, and other staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive environment.
  3. Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of attendance, absenteeism, transitions, minor disciplines, and incidents for each child.
  4. Classroom Management: Be responsible for the appearance and management of the classroom, including maintaining supplies, materials, and equipment in a neat and orderly fashion.
  5. Health and Safety: Report any broken or unsafe toys and properly disinfect equipment according to state regulations.
  6. Communication: Effectively communicate with parents through verbal and written reports, as well as conduct parent-teacher conferences in accordance with Center guidelines.
  7. Child Abuse and Neglect: Possess working knowledge of child abuse and neglect laws and follow proper reporting procedures.
  8. Discipline and Problem-Solving: Handle discipline promptly and in accordance with the stated discipline policy, documenting and reporting any special needs or problems to the supervisor.
  9. Environmental Maintenance: Monitor and assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the child care and program area.
  10. Ratios and Coverage: Maintain the required adult-child ratio and fill in other classrooms when needed.
  11. Professional Development: Attend parent events, family programs, staff meetings, and ongoing trainings to stay updated on best practices.
  12. Regulatory Compliance: Remain familiar with National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) or the National After School Association (NAA) accreditation requirements and complete required documentation.
  13. Transportation: Possess a safe driving record to transport children, with up to 14 children at a time.
  14. Summer Months and Day Camp: Work during summer months and participate in Day Camp activities.
  15. Confidentiality: Protect confidential information regarding program participants, families, and staff members.

Qualifications:

  1. Age and Education: Must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED. An Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  2. Experience: Six months of experience in the early childhood field is strongly preferred.
