Position Overview: Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant is accountable for managing the accounting functions and reconciliation processes related to the general ledger, homebuilding reports, revenue recognition, cash receipts, and deposits, as well as month-end reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the month-end closing process.
  • Maintain effective accounting practices and systems in line with corporate policies.
  • Prepare journal entries accurately.
  • Conduct bank account and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Support special project analyses as needed.
  • Oversee the reconciliation of suspense account activities.
  • Record incoming wire transfers and manage returned items.
  • Ensure the accuracy of monthly backlog profitability reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of weekly reporting requirements.
  • Prepare monthly revenue entries, various month-end accruals, reclassifications, and allocation entries.
  • Utilize the ESSBASE system daily during month-end close and periodically throughout the month to monitor overhead expenses for accuracy against original budgets, projections, and forecasts.
  • Run monthly fixed asset reports as required.
  • Prepare commission packages for review.
  • Support accounts payable functions.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a combination of relevant education and experience is necessary.
  • A minimum of two years of general accounting experience is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with JD Edwards is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail is essential.
