Job Summary:

As an Oncology Nurse Specialist at HexaQuEST Health, Inc., you will provide professional nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process, within established standards and practices for assigned patients. You will provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with other specialists as required, and adjust nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care as indicated.


Responsibilities:
  • Perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and re-assessments as per policy.
  • Provide individualized, age-specific care that supports hemostatic regulation, hemodynamic monitoring, and physiologic functioning.
  • Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation, including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes.
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity, maintaining patient confidentiality and identifying and addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Function as a patient advocate, demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients served.
  • Interact professionally with patients and family, involving patients and family in the formation of an individualized and mutually agreed-upon plan of care, reviewing, revising, updating, and resolving the plan of care daily.
  • Formulate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluate the effectiveness of learning, including family in teaching as appropriate.
  • Supervise other healthcare staff involved in patient care, allocating and monitoring the work of others, and demonstrating the ability to assist physicians with procedures in the department.
  • Respond promptly to changes in workload as necessary to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency, participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement activities to improve patient outcomes, processes, and the work environment.
  • Function as a preceptor to orient new employees, enhancing professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, staff meetings, and workshops.
  • Maintain operation of patient care equipment, ensuring an adequate stock of supplies and the proper functioning of equipment, and assisting in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
  • Demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations, meeting all departmental specific competencies, performing housekeeping duties when needed, and adhering to medical center policies addressing infection control, safety, and personnel guidelines.

Education and Licensure:
Associate's degree in nursing required. Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred. RN license required. CPR required BLS, ACLS, NIHSS EKG, Chemo/ONS required. Oncology Certified. 2 years experience required, 5 years preferred.
