About the Role

Gads Hill Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team. As a key member of our education staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of our students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Classroom Support: Assist education staff in ensuring the safety and well-being of all children in classrooms enrolled in early childhood programs.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with all managers to support all children enrolled in early childhood programming with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
  • Instructional Support: Under the direction of the Education and Disabilities Manager, assist with planning, development, and implementation of instructional, behavioral, and therapeutic activities.
  • Teamwork: Participate as a member of staff teams addressing the education process of students with disabilities.
  • Classroom Environment: Maintain a physical classroom environment that is conducive to the learning process.
  • Instructional Materials: Make effective use of instruction materials and demonstrate effective methods of instruction to ensure that the individual student performance levels, needs, and abilities are addressed.
  • Professional Development: Attend required monthly trainings for the Para-Professional project as directed by the CPS/DFSS Disabilities Support Team.
  • Standards and Ethics: Demonstrate knowledge of DCFS, Head Start, Early Head Start, and Preschool for All standards; implement them in all aspects of work.
  • NAEYC Standards: Understand and adhere to NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and Code of Ethics.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or GED with a minimum of 6 credit hours in early childhood education required.
  • Credentials: Valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or enrollment towards an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Six months previous direct early childhood classroom experience with low-income families preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal communication and organization skills.
  • Background Check: Ability to pass a criminal record and child abuse/neglect registry check.
  • Passion: A passion for the mission of Gads Hill Center.
