ROLE SUMMARY: The Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) at United Digestive collaborates with a diverse healthcare team to provide exceptional, evidence-based anesthesia care. The primary duties involve evaluating patients before their endoscopic procedures, administering anesthesia, and closely monitoring patients during and after the procedures under the guidance of a licensed anesthesiologist.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-screening evaluations via phone and chart reviews prior to the procedure.
- Assist anesthesiologists in collecting essential pre-operative information.
- Perform initial pre-anesthesia assessments and physical examinations for anesthesiologist review.
- Administer pre-anesthetic medications and treatments as directed by the anesthesiologist.
- Prepare and check equipment, monitors, supplies, and medications for sedation and anesthesia administration.
- Deliver prescribed analgesics and anesthetic agents, as well as necessary fluids for anesthesia services.
- Manage all aspects of airway maintenance.
- Support patient recovery from anesthesia by assessing responses and administering necessary medications or fluids.
- Provide post-anesthesia pharmacological or fluid support to stabilize the cardiovascular system.
- Ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation during the post-anesthesia phase.
- Evaluate patient responses to anesthesia and endoscopy, taking corrective actions as needed.
- Engage in post-anesthesia evaluations and care.
- Perform life-saving procedures, such as CPR, following established protocols.
- Promote patient safety through proactive participation in safety and quality improvement initiatives.
- Identify and report potential risks to patient safety.
Qualifications:
- Active state licensure as a certified anesthesiologist assistant, adhering to relevant state regulations.
- Graduation from an accredited anesthesiologist assistant educational program.
- Current certification or recertification by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA).
- Preferred experience of one to three years in anesthesia, with endoscopy experience being advantageous; proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with EMR systems, particularly ProVation MultiCare Giver, is preferred.
Additional Skills and Experience:
- Capability to function effectively as a CAA in an endoscopy environment.
- Proficiency in operating and interpreting data from various anesthesia equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care for the patient demographic.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with clinical staff and other professionals.
- Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with team members, patients, physicians, and visitors.
- Commitment to implementing and adhering to company policies and procedures.

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands:
Ability to perform under stress, with moderate periods of sitting and computer use. Good visual acuity is necessary. Physical capabilities include stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, as well as reaching, grasping, and fine motor skills. The role requires standing and walking for extended periods and lifting items weighing up to 25 pounds. Travel may be required based on business needs.
