Pediatric Speech Language Therapist

As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Speech Language Therapist is responsible for delivering comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services related to speech, language, and oral motor/feeding disorders, adhering to the guidelines established by state and federal regulations as well as the standards set forth by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
SUPERVISION
- Reports directly to the Manager of the home department and the Director of Rehabilitation Services.
Supervisory Role: No
Educational Background: A Master's degree is mandatory.
Field of Study: A degree in Speech Pathology is essential.
Licensure/Certification: Must be eligible for licensure in the State of Tennessee. A Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology or eligibility for Clinical Fellowship (CF) is required.
Experience: Prior experience or practicum in pediatric settings is preferred.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Exceptional diagnostic and therapeutic abilities.
- In-depth understanding of normal and atypical communication and feeding development.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Excellent communication capabilities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Conducts thorough evaluations of assigned patients, adhering to established care standards: Independently performs assessments based on best practices, identifies patient needs and strengths, and completes comprehensive evaluations in accordance with medical orders.
- Creates individualized Plans of Care to enhance patient function and safety: Collaborates with patients and their families to set realistic goals, outlines measurable outcomes, and modifies care plans based on ongoing assessments.
- Delivers skilled therapy sessions, continuously reassessing patient progress: Implements therapeutic techniques tailored to each patient's unique needs, educates patients and caregivers on treatment protocols, and prepares for discharge based on patient readiness.
- Maintains accurate documentation of services in compliance with departmental standards: Produces clear and concise documentation that reflects patient status and needs, ensuring timely submission of billing and communication tools.
- Coordinates care with interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes: Identifies referral needs and communicates effectively with team members to ensure comprehensive care.
- Educates caregivers on attendance and participation expectations: Provides information on policies and the importance of active involvement in treatment sessions.
- Demonstrates professional growth and contributes to team dynamics: Engages in continuous education, supports the development of colleagues, and participates in team projects.
- Utilizes hospital resources responsibly and efficiently: Adheres to productivity standards and manages patient scheduling effectively.
- Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Light lifting and moving of objects weighing up to 20 lbs may be required. Frequent sitting, walking, standing, and reaching are part of the role.
