In collaboration with the NSCWDD's B (Electromagnetic and Sensor Systems) Department, specifically Codes B40 and B60, this role entails providing specialized expertise in sensor systems throughout the entire acquisition lifecycle, from initial concept to the ongoing support of radar systems utilized by the US Navy (USN) and US Marine Corps (USMC). The systems involved include Dual Band Radar (DBR), Ground Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR), AN/SPY-1, AN/SPY-6, Enhanced Radar Data Display System (ERDDS), Enhanced Coherent Data Collection System (ECDCS), Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), among others.
Key Responsibilities

Primary Job Functions:

  • Assist in the formulation and implementation of systems engineering strategies from requirements gathering to design validation. Execute engineering plans in line with approved project acquisition strategies;
  • Conduct technical analyses and provide systems engineering support to enhance architecture design, interoperability, specification development, solution implementation, and project sustainment;
  • Create test and evaluation documentation, including laboratory testing protocols, technology assessment documents, usability engineering reports, and laboratory evaluations of software/hardware test items;
  • Draft and refine systems/subsystem specification documents, ensuring compliance, completeness, and consistency of component and interface requirements with both current and future system needs, information architectures, and overall systems;
  • Support signal processing initiatives, which include waveform design, clutter management, and electronic protection development; integrate electronic compatibility into systems; and assist in data collection and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of signal processing systems.

Work Environment:

Responsibilities may be performed in government or contractor office settings, laboratories, or field environments directly supporting USN/USMC operations. This may involve work on naval vessels, piers, dry docks, or other non-office locations as necessary.

Physical Requirements:

Travel to USN piers, ships, and dry docks may be required, along with movement between contractor and government facilities.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications:

Candidates must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Electronics Engineering;
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics from an accredited institution;
  • A Master's degree in one of the aforementioned fields;
  • A Ph.D. in one of the specified disciplines.

Experience / Skills:

General Sensor Engineering Experience:

General experience is defined as professional experience gained post-degree:

  • At least four (4) years with a Bachelor's degree;
  • At least two (2) years with a Master's degree.

Specialized Experience:

Proven experience and capability to conduct detailed calculations and possess knowledge of practices and principles essential for evaluating advanced sensor systems concepts, specifications, and system integration.
