Pediatric Critical Care Nurse Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Pediatric Critical Care Nurse to join our team at Childrens Mercy Hospital. As a Pediatric Critical Care Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to critically ill children in our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct patient care to critically ill children in the PICU, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for each patient.
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered by the physician, and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Perform various medical procedures, such as inserting IV lines, administering blood transfusions, and performing chest compressions.
  • Participate in code blue and rapid response team activations, and provide critical care to patients in these situations.
  • Document patient information accurately and thoroughly in the electronic medical record.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure seamless care coordination.
Requirements:
  • Current RN licensure in the state of employment.
  • ACLS and BLS certification.
  • Experience working in a pediatric critical care setting, preferably in a PICU or CICU.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple patients simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • NRP certification.
  • Experience with pediatric critical care equipment and technology.
  • Knowledge of pediatric critical care pharmacology and therapeutics.
