Job Overview

Position: Structural Steel Quality Control Inspector

Compensation: $23.00 to $25.00/hr. with an additional $1.50/hr. for night shifts

Evaluation: Potential for a raise after a 90-day performance review

Work Schedule: Night Shift – Monday to Thursday, 5:00 PM to 4:00 AM. Early arrivals may be compensated for up to one hour.

Role Objective: The primary function of this position is to conduct dimensional inspections on all structural components and assemblies to ensure compliance with detailed shop drawings. The inspector will also perform weld assessments in accordance with AWS D1.1 standards, working independently to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safety: Strive for zero accidents by utilizing all assigned protective equipment and adhering to safety protocols. Propose safety enhancements and report any incidents immediately.
  • Quality Assurance: Inspect fabricated components, welds, surface treatments, and coatings to guarantee that the final product meets high-quality standards, thereby enhancing the company's reputation.
  • Timeliness: Conduct inspections efficiently to ensure that quality control does not hinder delivery timelines.
  • Cost Efficiency: Optimize inspection processes to minimize costs and suggest improvements for enhanced efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: A minimum of two years in related fields, including fabrication, welding, and dimensional inspection.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three or more years of relevant experience, including layout and welding.
  • Proficient understanding of basic weld symbols and the ability to interpret structural fabrication drawings.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to make informed decisions regarding inspection processes.
  • Alignment with company values and understanding of nonconformance documentation.
Desired Skills:
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification
  • Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing methods
  • International Code Council Special Inspection Certifications in relevant areas
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Competence in interpreting incomplete data to draw conclusions.

Specific Duties:
  • Verify that all components conform to detail drawings.
  • Mark weld symbols on components for welders.
  • Document all inspection results.
  • Conduct visual inspections of welds per AWS D1.1.
  • Assess paint coverage and record findings.
