Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Tax Accountant to join our team at The GEO Group, Inc. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong understanding of tax laws and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review federal and state tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with tax laws.
  • Conduct tax research and planning assignments to optimize tax savings and minimize liabilities.
  • Maintain general ledger balances of selected tax accounts and perform quarterly reconciliations.
  • Work closely with accounting and other groups to obtain and validate information for income tax preparation.
  • Review and analyze tax books within the fixed asset system, including reconciliation of any GAAP books and tax books differences.
  • Prepare domestic reporting for foreign entities and optimize state and federal business tax credits.
  • Assist with due diligence on acquisitions and develop responses for requests related to all Federal and State audits.
  • Maintain knowledge and compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and their impact to the company.
  • Assist with documentation and implementation of tax policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Master's degree in taxation and CPA very desirable.
  • Three to four years of experience in the tax area, preferably at a public accounting firm.
  • Extensive and proven independent experience in federal consolidated returns (preparation and review) and multi-state tax background.
  • Strong conceptual understanding of accounting and financial statements, with experience in accounting for income taxes a plus.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with strong organizational skills and work-paper techniques.
  • Confident decision-maker with the ability to produce accurate results with minimal supervision.
  • Strong Excel and other computer skills, with the ability to organize, download, and upload large data files.
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters OneSource software and accounting for fixed assets and BNA Depreciation software a plus.
