Position Overview
The Nurse Practitioner plays a vital role in promoting and maintaining patient health throughout the healthcare continuum. Responsibilities include conducting thorough health assessments, identifying health characteristics, formulating treatment plans, initiating appropriate care, and continuously evaluating outcomes based on established standards. The role requires the ability to work independently or collaboratively with the healthcare team to manage patient care across various settings while adhering to compliance programs and ethical standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct patient evaluations in both office and hospital settings for laboratory testing, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic and acute conditions.
- Perform hospital rounds as necessary.
- Collaborate with physicians for patient needs in the hospital environment.
- Participate in after-hours and weekend coverage as required.
- Refer patients to specialists when appropriate.
- Prescribe medications and perform office procedures within the scope of practice.
- Manage patient inquiries and provide consultations via telephone.
- Conduct physical examinations, gather comprehensive medical histories, and order necessary diagnostic tests.
- Administer medications and injections in accordance with state regulations and clinic protocols.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans and health maintenance strategies.
- Work with physicians to manage ongoing medical needs and ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Engage in professional development to stay current with healthcare practices.
- Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Nursing with successful completion of an approved Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program.
- Acute Care certification is mandatory.
- A minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience, including two years as a Nurse Practitioner.
- At least one year of experience in an oncology setting.
- Current licensure as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner.
- Registered Nurse licensure is required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of nursing theories, practices, and regulations to provide effective patient care.
- Proficiency in using medical equipment and instruments.
- Familiarity with oncology-related medical terminology.
- Awareness of safety protocols to maintain a secure work environment.
- Ability to apply nursing principles and techniques to deliver ongoing patient care.
Work Environment:
The role involves a combination of clinical settings, with potential exposure to communicable diseases and other hazards typical in an oncology practice.
Physical and Mental Demands:
