Mission Bit is a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco dedicated to empowering youth of color through engaging, project-based computer science education that reflects their identities. We provide a range of hands-on STEM education initiatives, including biweekly, semester-long introductory coding courses.
Position SummaryAs a Teaching Assistant (TA), you will cultivate a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment, encourage collaborative learning, monitor student development, and assist students in achieving their fullest potential.

This is a seasonal, semester-based, hybrid position.
Responsibilities70% Community Engagement, Classroom Management, and Student Support
- Establish an inclusive and community-oriented classroom culture based on Mission Bit's core values of social justice, community, accountability, calculated risks, and compassion.
- Design and facilitate community-building activities and games.
- Develop meaningful relationships with students on an individual basis.
- Encourage positive and productive collaboration among students.
- Ensure students receive the necessary support throughout the course to confidently present a capstone project.
- Effectively manage classroom dynamics to create a conducive learning environment for all.
- Lead the class in the absence of the primary instructor.
20% Professional Collaboration
- Participate in weekly staff meetings (schedule to be determined at the semester's start).
- Communicate and collaborate with the Lead Instructor and fellow instructional staff.
10% Communication
- Update students and their families on course progress.
- Share student achievements and progress with Program Staff to collectively support student learning.

- Possess experience in Python programming (including academic, bootcamp, internship, or professional experience).
- Align with Mission Bit's values and have a passion for supporting youth.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable and effective in public speaking.
- Have experience working with diverse populations.
- Are self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with youth, particularly in educational contexts.
- Familiarity with project-based learning, asset-based teaching, and/or culturally relevant pedagogy.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Tagalog, or Samoan is a plus.
Hourly Rate: $22.00
