Reliable Janitor Wanted

We are seeking a reliable and motivated individual to join our team as a custodian at Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of various facilities, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for employees and visitors.

This opportunity is part of the Ability One program, which allows individuals with significant disabilities to work in Government Contracted positions.

Work hours are 5:30pm to 9:30pm, Monday through Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. General cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming floors, carpets, and furniture.
  2. Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and replenishing supplies as needed.
  3. Emptying trash receptacles and sorting recycling materials appropriately.
  4. Maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  5. Performing minor preventative maintenance tasks.
  6. Following established procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.
  7. Reporting any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor.
  8. Assisting with setup and breakdown of equipment and furniture for meetings and events.
  9. Notifying management of any safety hazards or emergencies.
  10. Adhering to all health and safety regulations and policies.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Proven experience as a custodian, janitor, or similar role is desirable but not required.
  • Ability to pass a military background screen to obtain base access.
  • Physical abilities, including lifting heavy objects and standing/walking for extended periods.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality service.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Transportation to access the base.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

The estimated salary for this position is $28,500 - $38,500 per year, depending on location and experience. Benefits include medical and dental insurance, 401k, and a $4.49 health and welfare benefit.
