ROLE SUMMARY

We are in search of dedicated and meticulous individuals to become part of our billing department. This position involves working closely with the finance manager and clinical personnel to resolve any discrepancies related to billing for patient visits. You will be responsible for researching and communicating with patients about their insurance benefits and financial obligations, ensuring accurate verification and entry of insurance information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reconcile billing statements with patient charts to confirm all charges are accounted for.
  • Input surgical charges; liaise with surgery centers and clinical staff to verify the accuracy of procedures.
  • Ensure that all necessary documentation is present to justify charges. Review medical policies to confirm that charges align with the correct diagnosis for medical necessity as per insurance guidelines.
  • Generate weekly reports on unbilled visits to identify any outstanding charges.
  • Timely and accurately post payments received from patients.
  • Establish payment plans with patients when suitable and mutually agreed upon.
  • Review surgical schedules for eligibility and financial arrangements, ensuring prior authorization is secured for upcoming procedures.
  • Process requests from the Bureau of Disability and legal representatives by entering appropriate charges and preparing necessary documentation for submission.
  • Assist clerical staff with entering insurance details for patient visits, addressing any inquiries they may have.
  • Handle incoming calls directed to the finance department from patients and insurance companies, discussing account details as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a medical office setting; billing and collections experience is preferred.
  • Certification as an Ophthalmic Coding Specialist is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with medical billing, coding, and insurance processes.
  • Proficient follow-up skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Team-oriented mindset.
