The Department of Nursing at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is looking for a Staff Nurse (RN) to join the Adult Surgery Specialty Unit (2RC). This unit is part of the Medical Surgical Services (MSS) division. A Staff Nurse will evaluate patients' nursing care requirements, assess the effectiveness of the care provided, and incorporate nursing theory and research into clinical practice.
The Adult Surgery Specialty Unit (2 Roy Carver) features 34 beds dedicated to post-operative care for patients undergoing complex surgical procedures. The interdisciplinary team is essential for managing the diverse needs of these patients, focusing on post-operative disease processes.
We provide care for patients with conditions including:
- Solid Organ Transplant
- Liver
- Pancreas
- Kidney
- Trauma Surgery
- Vascular
- Femoral popliteal bypass
- Carotid endarterectomy
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm
- Colorectal Surgery
- Bariatrics
- Laparoscopic gastric sleeve
- Emergency general surgery
Key Responsibilities of Staff Nurses include:
- Applying nursing theory to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patient responses to health and illness.
- Assessing patient healthcare preferences and expectations.
- Coordinating the continuum of care collaboratively across various settings.
- Developing patient care plans tailored to individual conditions, ages, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic factors, prescribing interventions to achieve desired outcomes.
- Implementing patient care plans based on patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses, and documenting/reporting interventions and patient/family responses.
- Collaborating with patients and families to integrate their contributions into the multidisciplinary patient care plan.
- Coordinating and implementing transfer/discharge planning throughout the care episode.
- Executing nursing interventions in accordance with departmental, divisional, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff, adhering to universal precautions.
Location: Iowa City, IA
Salary: Starting at $60,000, subject to experience and effort percentage. Compensation Details:
Pay Differentials: Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts, with premium pay for additional shifts exceeding 4 hours. Inpatient differential of $5,000 annually based on percent time. Benefits Overview: Comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation, sick leave, health, dental, life, and disability insurance options, along with generous employer contributions to retirement plans.
Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
Education Requirements:
- An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members through effective written and verbal interactions.
- Basic computer skills are required.
- A current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by the date of hire.
- A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or a Master's Degree in Nursing is highly preferred.
- If a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
- Previous telemetry experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with University policies and procedures is a plus.
