The hospital offers a variety of surgical services, including a specialized orthopedic joint replacement center and advanced cardiac catheterization facilities. Our joint replacement program utilizes robotic-assisted technology for both partial knee and total hip replacement procedures.
Additionally, our facility features a Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and provides comprehensive care for women throughout their pregnancy journey, including prenatal, delivery, and postpartum services.
The Wound Care Center at Tampa General Hospital focuses on treating non-healing wounds and employs hyperbaric medicine techniques to enhance healing.
Other services encompass general surgery, ENT (ear, nose, and throat), plastic surgery, urology, and rehabilitation therapies, which include outpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
Role Overview: The Surgical First Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting surgeons during operations and may undertake specific significant surgical tasks under professional supervision. The RNFA collaborates closely with the surgical team to ensure patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.
The RNFA is responsible for providing perioperative care and must possess the requisite knowledge, skills, and judgment to perform effectively.
Professional Requirements:
- Completion of at least 100 continuing education credits, with a minimum of 30 in advanced topics over a six-year period.
- Provision of age-appropriate care, demonstrated through the completion of an age-specific competency checklist.
- Exhibition of technical skill competency via completion of core and annual skills assessments.
- Demonstration of critical thinking abilities, particularly in emergency situations, aligned with the Standards and Recommended Practices of Perioperative Nursing.
- Possession of a valid Florida RN license.
- Successful completion of an RNFA technology program and an assisting course.
- A minimum of one year of experience as an RNFA or current staff member in training, with documentation of at least 150 surgical cases in the relevant specialty.
- Current certifications in BLS and ACLS, along with credentialing as a certified first assistant.
