Position Overview:


The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) in an educational setting operates under the direct guidance of a certified Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to deliver therapeutic and educational support to students facing communication challenges.

The SLPA aids the SLP in executing personalized treatment strategies and interventions designed to enhance students' speech, language, and communication abilities.


Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the SLP to evaluate students' speech and language capabilities utilizing suitable diagnostic methods and tools.

Assist in crafting and executing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with communication challenges.

Deliver direct therapy services to students, both one-on-one and in group settings, employing evidence-based methodologies and techniques.

Support students in enhancing their articulation, phonological awareness, fluency, voice, and language skills through targeted exercises and activities.


Promote communication and social interaction skills, including pragmatic language, for students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders or social communication challenges.


Assist students with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, such as sign language or communication boards, to improve their self-expression capabilities.


Work collaboratively with educators, parents, and other professionals involved in the student's care to ensure effective implementation of therapy goals across educational environments.

Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, including therapy sessions, assessments, and any modifications to treatment plans.

Assist in the preparation and selection of therapy materials, resources, and technological tools to enhance service delivery.

Adhere to ethical and professional standards set forth by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), state licensing boards, and educational policies.

Qualifications:
Associate's degree in Speech Language Pathology Assistant program or equivalent, or Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

State licensure or certification as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant, as mandated by the state or district.

Previous experience working with children or students in an educational or clinical environment is preferred.

Comprehensive knowledge of various speech and language disorders and their corresponding therapeutic techniques.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, educators, and other professionals.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively to meet the diverse needs of a varied caseload.

Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with various software applications used for documentation and data management.

A compassionate and patient demeanor with the ability to inspire and engage students.

Willingness to stay informed about the latest research and best practices in the field of speech-language pathology.

Capability to work independently while following directives from the supervising SLP.
