We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Histotechnologist to join our team at Johns Hopkins University. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling delicate specimens, demonstrating technical expertise in tissue processing, and providing support in ongoing expansion and quality improvement processes.
Key Responsibilities- Tissue Processing: Process tissue in the Mohs Dermatologic Surgery/Dermatopathology units, including embedding tissue and cutting frozen/paraffin blocks.
- Slide Preparation: Prepare slides (staining slides, reviewing stain for adequacy, labeling and distributing slides).
- Equipment Maintenance: Clean embedding center and Stainer in compliance with credentialing policies.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance activities, maintain documentation for QA, and report QA problems to supervise physicians.
- Training and Development: Train and orientate new staff in the laboratory, and ensure all lab staff understands the yearly National Patient Safety Goals.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in facility-wide continuous quality improvement activities, safety and disaster activities, and other QA activities.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Histology, or a related field.
- Experience: 1 year of laboratory experience in histology, or Associate Degree from an accredited Histotechnology certification program with 3 years of histology laboratory experience.
- Certification: HT (ASCP) certification is preferred.
