Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at Churchill County. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our employees and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform standard custodial duties, including sweeping, mopping, and polishing floors, as well as dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures.
  • Empty and clean waste receptacles, and dispose of trash in a responsible manner.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, restock supplies as needed, and report any maintenance or repair issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Strips, seals, and buffs floors as needed, and closes windows, turns off lights, and locks doors to secure buildings.
  • Reports any fire or safety hazards and places barriers in public areas as necessary.
  • Maintains equipment, materials, and supplies in proper condition, and observes safe working practices.
  • Follows label instructions to mix and dilute cleansers, disinfectants, and stripping agents to ensure proper strength for use.
  • Answers questions and provides standard information to the public if working in a public facility.
  • Keeps basic records of work performed, time sheets, etc.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED and one (1) year of custodial/janitorial experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and the safe usage of cleaning materials, disinfectants, custodial tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and power equipment related to the work, and to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work without close supervision in standard work situations, and to contribute effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of work performed.

Mobility to work in a typical shop or related maintenance setting, including operating typical trade equipment, hand and power tools, and standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle to various work sites; stamina to stand, walk, and climb and to work in confined or awkward spaces for an extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone.

Work is subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, electrical currents, gases, dust, and noxious odors.
