The HCA Nurse Residency Program is a comprehensive year-long initiative designed to provide hands-on experience that cultivates essential clinical and critical thinking abilities. As a Graduate Nurse Resident, you will be immersed in a supportive environment with nurse educators, seasoned nurses, and fellow residents, all focused on fostering learning, clinical application, and professional integration, guiding you through your transition from student to registered nurse.

Job Responsibilities and Qualifications

The HCA Nurse Residency Program at North Suburban Medical Center equips you with the necessary tools to thrive in today's healthcare environment. This compensated program facilitates your transition from academic settings through a structured series of learning experiences, including:

  • Advanced clinical training in specialized areas.
  • Monthly educational workshops.
  • Preceptorship with a designated facility mentor.
  • Skills assessment through practical simulations.
  • Guidance from experienced nursing leaders.
  • Collaborative work on evidence-based practice projects.

The RN Resident is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in alignment with departmental requirements and nursing standards. Collaborating with medical providers and care team members, the RN Resident offers individualized, compassionate care using established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." The RN Resident acts as an advocate for patients and families, ensuring an exceptional patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate patient conditions upon admission and during scheduled shifts, reporting any changes.
  • Execute procedures and monitor functions as directed by medical providers, documenting care in a timely manner.
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patients for therapeutic responses.
  • Provide prompt and exceptional care, anticipating patient needs proactively.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, and medications.

Qualifications Required:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of employment
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year of employment
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the State
  • No prior experience necessary
  • Potential travel for training may be required
