Key Responsibilities
  • Provide routine and complex care to patients, demonstrating an awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care, utilizing evidence-based practice and critical thinking skills.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Administer medications and treatments, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, family members, and caregivers, identifying issues and resources.

  • Utilizes the Nursing Process
    • Uses critical thinking skills to assess patient needs and develop individualized plans of care.
    • Communicates findings to healthcare team members and documents patient information accurately.
    • Implements patient care and therapeutic procedures, monitoring and documenting patient response.

  • Unit Operations
    • Plans, directs, and evaluates nursing care and functions in the Labor and Delivery Department.

    • Assesses departmental staffing needs and actively participates in resourcing efforts.
  • Safe Practice/Quality Care/Regulations
    • Incorporates patient safety practices and guidelines to promote a safe environment.
    • Demonstrates accountability for nursing research and quality improvement activities.
    • Provides evidence-based nursing care and communicates patient information effectively across the continuum of care.
Requirements
  • 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred.
  • Perinatal RN Residency or recently practicing in a Perinatal Setting is preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • RN License in state of employment or compact.
  • BLS required.
  • Current certification from NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) or one of the following AWHONN courses: Intermediate FHM, Intermediate FHM Instructor, Advanced FHM Instructor, or Instructor Trainer at time of hire or prior to the end of orientation for experienced nurses; within 90 days of hire for new graduates and experienced nurses new to the specialty then required to maintain course certification thereafter.
