The role of the Clinical Support Specialist (CSS) is crucial as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, providing direct patient assistance. The CSS performs essential administrative and patient care support tasks that aid the medical team in examining and treating patients, ensuring the clinic/office operates smoothly. The CSS offers clerical support under the guidance of the practice manager and assists clinically in delivering patient care in the medical practice under the supervision of the provider. The CSS collaborates with Practice Leadership in accordance with CMH department policies and procedures and operates within the guidelines set by the American Association of Medical Assistants. The CSS communicates effectively with the appropriate personnel (Provider, Clinical Coordinator, Team Leader, and/or Practice Manager) regarding changes in patient status and results of diagnostic tests.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from a Medical Assistant program is required. Must possess one (1) of the following credentials OR be eligible to obtain one (1) of the following credentials, based on the credentialing organization's eligibility requirements, within 90 days of hire:- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Health Career Association
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – The American Registry of Medical Assistants
Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification is required. High school diploma or GED is required. A minimum of one year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical environment is preferred. Familiarity with PC and Electronic Medical Records is necessary.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to perform heavy lifting and transport patients using stretchers and wheelchairs may be required. Understanding of sterile techniques and special procedures relevant to the work performed. Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and specialized treatments to patients. Proficiency in medical terminology. Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks or activities simultaneously, provide quality patient service, prioritize effectively, and utilize critical thinking.
