Maintenance Technician Job Description

Gilbane Development Company is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team in Ypsilanti, MI. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our properties, including daily physical building-related activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise vendors and subcontractors as needed to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of tasks.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Implement and manage maintenance and operational best practices to optimize property value and minimize downtime.
  • Operate and manage Building Management Systems (BMS) to ensure efficient energy usage and optimal building performance.
  • Manage utility procurement and optimize usage to reduce costs.
Project Systems:
  • Test, maintain, and restore to working order any component of the systems used within the property, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety systems.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years' maintenance engineering experience with knowledge of commercial, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with technical school certification.
  • General maintenance skills in carpentry, painting, locksmithing, etc.
  • Valid driver's license and good attendance record.
  • Strong knowledge of technical terms used in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and multitask.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
