Job Overview

Viking Engineering and Development is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing wood fastening equipment, including mechanical systems for structures, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electro-mechanical systems.


Key Responsibilities
  • Design and validate mechanical systems for machine projects, including structures, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Document and resolve project issues to meet cost, quality, and specifications.
  • Manage ECOs, implement them in Viking's MRP system, and create new product concepts.
  • Select components, adhere to design best practices, conduct design reviews, and problem-solve.
  • Create engineering prints, BOMs, and validation testing plans.
  • Support continuous improvement, provide training, and offer support to production, customer service, and sales.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with 1-3 years of relevant experience. You should have expertise in designing large machinery or capital equipment and proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks for modeling, drawing creation, and PDM). Strong skills in Microsoft Office, troubleshooting, self-motivation, and being a team player with customer interaction experience are also essential.


Preferred Skills

Preferred software experience includes SolidWorks (or similar), MRP systems like Epicor Kinetic, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Outlook).


Work Environment

This is a full-time exempt position based in Viking's main office location. Schedule is standard business hours. The position will be expected to travel to customer sites 3-4 times per year.
