KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Adhere to the laboratory's protocols for specimen management and processing, test evaluations, reporting, and maintaining patient test records; 2. Ensure documentation that confirms proficiency testing samples are analyzed in accordance with patient specimens; 3. Conduct specimen analysis utilizing sanctioned testing methods (refer to departmental SOPs). 4. Review and authorize test outcomes. 5. Comply with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety regulations as outlined in their respective guidelines. 6.
Follow the laboratory's quality assurance policies, recording all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance performed; 7.
Implement the laboratory's established protocols whenever test systems fall outside the laboratory's defined acceptable performance levels. 8.
Identify issues that may negatively impact test performance or result reporting, rectify the encountered problems, or promptly inform the senior technologist or supervisor. 9.
Document all corrective measures taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's performance standards. 10. Adhere to departmental procedures in reporting STAT or Critical results to clients. 11. If necessary, respond to inquiries from clients or other laboratory personnel. 12. Maintain comprehensive records of all testing conducted on-site. 13. Uphold the overall appearance of the department. 14. Ensure reagents/test kits are properly labeled with received dates, expiration dates, and, if applicable, opened dates. 15. Review and provide training on new procedures. 16. Attend monthly departmental and any additional training or educational meetings. 17. Engage in all relevant safety training sessions. Be familiar with the location and contents of the safety manual and the use of all applicable safety equipment. 18. If required, participate in inspections by government or regulatory agencies. 19. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.Essential Knowledge:
A comprehensive understanding of fundamental laboratory testing is essential for this role. The ideal candidate must demonstrate proficient computer skills and adapt to various computer systems. Familiarity with quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) processes, as well as knowledge across all laboratory domains, is required.
Educational Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology is preferred; alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biology, or an Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR published in March 14, 1990.
The successful candidate should possess or be eligible for national certification as an MT / MLT from a recognized organization (ASCP or AMT).
Work Experience:
1 year of clinical experience (high complexity testing) is preferred.
A minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in highly complex testing is required for those with a BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology.
National and State licensure as required.Special Requirements:
1. Must possess the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple procedures simultaneously. 2. Must collaborate with other departments. 3. Interaction with clients may be necessary; strong customer service skills are essential. 4. Must maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Additional Information:
