Operating Room Surgical Pathology Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Operating Room Surgical Pathology Specialist to join our team at Mass General Brigham in Malden, Massachusetts.
Job SummaryThis is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to work in a high-volume academic setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing non-complex surgical pathology specimens, triaging and accessing all specimen types received in the Surgical Grossing Room, and providing instruction to resident trainees on appropriate specimen handling.
Responsibilities- Process a full range of non-complex surgical pathology specimens via direct transfer and/or minimal sectioning of tissue.
- Triage and accession all specimen types received in the Surgical Grossing Room.
- Provide instruction to resident trainees on appropriate specimen handling.
- Maintain diagnostic viability of specimens and ensure correct patient labeling.
- Triaged tissue for different types of fixation or special studies.
- Assist senior staff by assuring consistent and proper acquisition of tissue from specimens for departmental or inter-departmental purposes.
- Receive, verify, and enter data of patient medical record information into LIS, assign surgical pathology accession numbers, edit and confirm patient charge information.
- Generate barcode labels, label surgical specimens, print specimen cassettes, and ensure quality assurance by cross-checking specimen cassettes with correct specimen.
- Bachelor's degree required; degree in biology, chemistry, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience (minimum of one year) in grossing surgical specimens preferred.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, aptitude for attention to detail, in-depth knowledge of clinical field and medical terminology, strong analytical skills, and strong interpersonal and verbal presentation skills required.
- Competitive salary range: $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.
