Work Shift: Day (United States of America)
Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Medical Cardiology unit is responsible for assessing, coordinating, planning, directing, implementing, and managing the care of assigned patients throughout their healthcare journey. This role emphasizes progress toward discharge, particularly during transitions within the acute care setting. The RN ensures the delivery and coordination of patient care by the caregiving team, guaranteeing that competent and compassionate care is consistently provided to all stakeholders, including referring facilities, hospital staff, and patients across inpatient, ambulatory, and community environments.
Unit Description:
The Medical Cardiology unit comprises 29 beds, including 1 private room, 13 semi-private rooms, and one 4-bedroom space. Patients are admitted from various sources, including the Emergency Department, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, CCU, MICU, physician offices, and other facilities when inpatient care is required. The patient demographic includes both male and female individuals, ranging from young adults to geriatric patients, with diverse cardiac and medical conditions. Most patients necessitate telemetry monitoring following minimally invasive and invasive cardiac procedures.
Key Responsibilities:

• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patients' conditions.
• Evaluate patient needs and responses to care provided.
• Utilize sound nursing judgment in managing patient care decisions.
• Provide primary and emergency care for both occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
• Administer over-the-counter and prescription medications as directed.
• Collaborate with the nursing team to develop comprehensive Plans of Care for all patients.
• Supervise and guide ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program resulting in a Diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree.
• Current New York State Registered Nurse license is required.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained and maintained.
• Previous experience as a Patient Care Assistant or similar nursing support role is preferred.
• Commitment to continuous education for professional development.
• Familiarity with quality improvement concepts, principles, and problem-solving techniques, with the ability to apply them in support of departmental and patient care quality enhancements.
