We are seeking a skilled Laborer II to join our team at Shelby County, AL. As a Laborer II, you will be responsible for performing manual labor associated with the construction and maintenance of county right-of-ways, roads, ditches, and storm sewers. This role involves operating standard road machines and medium to light equipment, as well as performing routine maintenance of machines, equipment, and tools used.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate standard road machines and medium to light equipment in the performance of manual labor associated with the construction and maintenance of county right-of-ways, roads, ditches, and storm sewers.
- Perform routine maintenance of machines, equipment, and tools used.
- Load and unload dirt, construction material, and supplies from trucks and other vehicles.
- Cut grass, weeds, and brush and clear job sites with hand tools and weed eaters.
- Clean culverts, drains, and ditches.
- Load and unload trucks of tools, materials, and debris.
- Assist in the maintenance of county paved and dirt roads.
- Spread sand, gravel, and asphalt.
- Remove obstructions, such as trees, from roads using hand and power saws.
- Carry sand, concrete, asphalt, and cement.
- Apply patching materials to road surfaces.
- Flag and direct traffic during road construction.
- Assist skilled workers by carrying materials and tools, or performing unskilled tasks such as mixing mortar or drilling holes.
- Dig post holes and post and remove road signs and fencing.
Requirements:
- Six months of general labor experience, including the use of tools and equipment used in construction, maintenance, and repair work.
- Class B CDL License required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Class A CDL License.
Working Conditions:
- Work is mostly performed outdoors in all types of weather (storms, rain, cold, heat, etc.).
- Extremes of cold and heat temperatures.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is medium to heavy in nature consisting of lifting, walking, driving, pulling, pushing, bending.
- Exertion activities may require 20-50 pounds of lifting, pushing, and pulling.
