Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Radiologic Technologist to join our team at UMass Memorial Health. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for exams, ensuring their comfort and modesty at all times.
  • Obtain and examine requisitions for imaging examinations, verifying patient identification and obtaining informed consent when necessary.
  • Participate in patient transfers, positioning, and instructing patients for optimal imaging results.
  • Follow established departmental policies and procedures, making adjustments and improvements as needed.
  • Provide radiation protection to unaffected areas of the body, adhering to prescribed safety standards.
  • Calculate and select proper technical factors for procedures, selecting equipment and positioning patients for optimal results.
  • Evaluate images for diagnostic quality, adjusting techniques and factors as necessary.
  • Operate imaging equipment according to specific diagnostic procedures and established routines.
  • Review electronic images for quality and completeness, transferring or duplicating films/images as directed.
  • Follow PACs workflow procedures, working with electronic work lists and ensuring all images meet quality standards.
  • Initiate hard stops and notify staff as necessary, monitoring patients receiving contrast for adverse reactions.
  • Assist physicians in specialized examinations, preparing equipment and supplies, and explaining procedures to patients and family members.
  • Ensure images, examination requisitions, and related records are properly completed for patient identification, statistical, and billing purposes.
  • Work as a Radiographic Technologist and perform duties in other areas and/or modalities as needed, maintaining competence in standard radiologic procedures.
  • Report hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns immediately, taking defective equipment out of service.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, ensuring examination rooms are properly supplied with equipment and materials.
Requirements
  • RTR licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including a temporary (1 year) MA license.
  • ARRT certification in Radiology within 12 months from date of hire.
  • BLS certification.
  • Some specialty modalities may require additional formal training and certification.
  • Maintain area-specific CEUs for ARRT and DPH according to regulation.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

This position requires work indoors in a normal patient care environment, with a medium work level.
