Job Summary:

As an Arborist II with Salt Lake City Corporation, you will play a critical role in maintaining the city's urban forest by performing specialized tasks related to tree planting, maintenance, removal, and emergency services. This position requires a strong understanding of arboriculture practices, as well as the ability to work at heights and operate complex equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and train crew members in safe performance of job-related duties.
• Determine and implement effective techniques for tree pruning, spraying, removal, planting, and stump grinding.
• Operate and maintain various types of specialized equipment, including aerial lift equipment, stump cutters, and chain saws.
• Comply with safety protocols and regulations, including ANSI Z133.1-2000.
• Make recommendations to supervisors on operational processes, equipment needs, and technical information.
• Perform tasks at heights above 100 feet, including manual climbing of trees.
• Update and close service requests, work orders, and tree inventory records using computer systems.

Requirements:

• Three years of experience working as a member of a tree maintenance crew, or three years of related tree care experience.
• At least six months of experience climbing trees.
• Ability to read and write, and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Knowledge of tree species and proper methods for planting, maintenance, removal, and emergency services.
• Familiarity with tree industry personal protective equipment, climbing gear, and hardware.
• Arborist Certification by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) within 12 months of hire.
• Ability to supervise and communicate with diverse individuals.
• Possession of a valid Utah Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class A with endorsement airbrakes and combination, or ability to attain within six months.
• Ability to obtain flagging certification and First Aid/CPR certification within six months of hire.

Working Conditions:

• Arduous physical work with exposure to heat exhaustion, falls from height, electrocution, and injury from power equipment.
• Continuous exposure to heights, extreme weather conditions, and hazardous materials.
• Irregular and prolonged working hours during peak sessions and emergency situations.
