Design Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Design Engineer to join our team at Insight Global. The successful candidate will be responsible for upgrading major energy providers' distribution grids.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop construction plans and schedules for project work
  • Create work packages and construction plans
  • Bill materials and manage scope of work
  • Own field work, including taking notes, pictures, measurements, and designing project construction plans

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical or Civil Engineering or Associates Degree with working experience
  • 1 year of prior relevant experience: working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company, performing design engineering
  • Strong previous experience with AutoCad or MicroStation Design software
  • Ability to work in remote setting and be productive on weekly metrics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Power distribution experience
  • Strong construction background, design work, civil engineering, electrical experience, and programming experience

Work Environment:

The Design Engineer will work with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems to perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop, and flicker, and coordination of protective devices.

Work Distribution:

60%-80% of the time will be spent on engineering and development of design packages for construction crews.
