Position Overview:
We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer, PE to join our team, providing full-time, on-site support as part of the Defense Health Agency Headquarters Engineering Operations team in San Antonio, TX. This position entails the development and execution of intricate infrastructure repair and modernization initiatives while ensuring adherence to all applicable codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of large-scale infrastructure repair and modernization projects, including the creation of performance work statements (PWS), preparing estimates, and serving as a technical advisor during source selection boards.
- Facilitate project execution and kick-off meetings, act as Technical Representative, and conduct Quality Assurance and Safety compliance inspections.
- Perform functional testing and commissioning for government acceptance of systems through detailed verification of design, installation, functionality, and performance.
- Provide expert engineering guidance on compliance and quality management for major building systems, including HVAC, water distribution, plumbing, medical gas, security and communications, building automation, and fire suppression systems.
- Support DHA Enterprise Water Treatment Management programs by collecting and validating performance data and metrics for reporting purposes.
- Assist Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) in enhancing energy performance and water treatment efficiency.
- Mentor junior engineers, offering technical reviews and supervision to foster their development in fieldwork and adherence to engineering procedures and DHA policies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in applied mechanical engineering.
- Professional Engineering (PE) registration in mechanical engineering is mandatory.
- A minimum of 5 years of documented practical experience in the healthcare sector, with at least 5 years of design and consulting experience. This experience should include direct responsibility for the operation, maintenance, repair, and management of large mechanical infrastructure systems in institutional, industrial, or medical healthcare environments. Recent experience must span continuously over the preceding three years.
- U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Clearance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expertise in the mechanical trade discipline with extensive practical experience in analyzing plans, data, designs, operations, and maintenance practices.
- Ability to prepare estimates and provide recommendations for repairs, sustainment, and optimization of building systems and infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of local, municipal, and federal building codes, criteria, and standards.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communicative, diplomatic, and analytical skills for delivering high-quality presentations to executive leadership and large audiences.
