Echocardiography Specialist

Medstar Health is seeking a skilled Echocardiography Specialist to become a vital part of our healthcare team.
This position operates on a PRN day shift schedule with rotating weekends.
The ideal candidate will possess experience in echocardiography, the capability to identify emergency medical scenarios, and strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
The Echocardiography Specialist will conduct echocardiography examinations, Holter monitoring, and exercise stress assessments. This role includes assisting in the development and execution of protocols and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all departmental and Medstar Health billing requirements are completed accurately and promptly. Manage reports as needed and verify the completeness and accuracy of patient data before billing and interpretation. Maintain necessary statistics and assist in managing cardiology supply inventories. Prepare all related procedures prior to conducting tests and clarify testing requests in uncertain situations. Communicate essential information about specific tests to patients and their families, explaining procedures before testing.
- Perform hookup and scanning analysis procedures for Holter monitors, cardiac event recorders, and Zio Patch units with precision. Exhibit accurate lead placement and calibration as required by the equipment. Maintain cleanliness and functionality of cardiology equipment in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Conduct stress echo procedures, including echo imaging and Doppler assessments. Accurately perform EKG and blood pressure measurements during procedures, adhering to departmental protocols. Monitor patient conditions and safety throughout procedures, documenting any cardiac abnormalities related to patient symptoms or diagnoses.
- Execute technically proficient EKG tracings, ensuring all necessary patient information is displayed. Confirm accurate lead placement and ensure EKGs are transmitted into the MUSE system as appropriate. Prepare EKG tracings for physician review.
- Carry out transesophageal and transthoracic echocardiographic imaging and cardiac Doppler assessments. Capture and document optimal grayscale images, color flow, Doppler signals, measurements, and calculations. Identify and record any cardiac abnormalities during testing related to patient symptoms or diagnoses.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- A minimum of 6 months of echocardiography experience, including the performance of at least 100 echocardiogram/Doppler examinations.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or registry-eligible in Cardiovascular Technology from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or Canadian Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CRCS) from the Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals (CARDUP) within one year of hiring.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits in line with IAC-Echo accreditation standards.
- Successful completion of an ultrasound or cardiovascular technology program with verified didactic training is preferred.
- Supervised clinical experience in echocardiography is preferred.
- Experience in arrhythmia analysis is preferred.
