Job Title: Adjunct Hunting Instructor

Mid Michigan College is seeking a qualified Adjunct Hunting Instructor to teach the Hunting Strategies course in the Hunting and Angling Studies program.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and update course syllabi to ensure a comprehensive and engaging learning experience for students.
  • Teach assigned course content using a variety of presentation methods, including lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities.
  • Observe and assess student learning competencies, providing timely feedback to students to help them improve their skills.
  • Schedule office hours to assist students with questions and concerns.
  • Maintain and report accurate classroom records, including student grades and attendance.
  • Communicate student assessment results to department faculty and administrators.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Serve on program-related committees to contribute to the development and implementation of the Hunting and Angling Studies program.
  • Adhere to departmental objectives, policies, procedures, and standards, recommending changes as necessary to improve the efficacy of the Department.
  • Support and model the College's mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives, adhering to organizational policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines.
  • Meet the requirements of a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act, completing annual training and reporting any crimes to the College's Clery Compliance Officer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the department.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to translate educational and professional experience into the student learning environment.
  • Ability to provide positive motivation and encourage student participation.
  • Ability to keep up with new trends and developments in classroom technology.
  • Effective planning, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Written and computer skills to prepare course materials.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate and report student learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of hunting rules and regulations, as well as hunting safety best practices.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or professional experience in the hunting industry or as a guide/outfitter.
  • Teaching experience preferred, but not required.
  • Outdoor industry work experience related to hunting and fishing.
  • Extensive knowledge of hunting and trapping techniques, as well as a thorough understanding of hunting rules and regulations.
Working Environment:
  • The job responsibilities of this position are performed in a classroom environment, requiring a professional image and demeanor, on-time attendance, and reliability.
  • The job responsibilities also involve working in the outdoor environment, which may involve varying levels of discomfort due to heat, cold, or dust.
  • There may be travel to other college locations for meetings, and job duties may be performed in an independent or team atmosphere.
  • The job requires intermittent periods of continuous physical exertion, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting, and carrying.
  • Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines, quotas, or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some unpleasant situations.
  • Hours as needed by department demands.
