Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a driven postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in disease detection through gait and motion analysis, balance assessment, and eye tracking data utilizing machine learning techniques. This role will primarily focus on diagnosing neurological conditions using our expanding database of patient-generated data, particularly quantitative measures of gait and balance. Responsibilities include data preprocessing, training machine learning models, conducting clinical validation studies, and disseminating findings through publications and code sharing. Previous experience in gait and motion analysis, as well as time series analysis, is highly desirable.

The Neurology Artificial Intelligence Program (NAIP) comprises a dynamic team of clinician-investigators, data scientists, and software engineers dedicated to developing AI tools for clinical applications and patient-centered research. This position offers a unique opportunity to leverage expertise in gait and motion analysis and eye tracking to create impactful digital solutions for clinical practice. We encourage applications from individuals passionate about enhancing healthcare through technology, particularly in machine learning. Candidates with experience in gait and motion analysis, machine learning, or signal processing are strongly encouraged to apply.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Proficient programming skills (e.g., Python).
  • Demonstrated history of publications and conference presentations.

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform.
  • Statistical analysis capabilities.
  • Experience in recording, preprocessing, and manipulating gait/motion capture/accelerometer data.
  • Application of machine learning techniques to gait/motion capture/accelerometer data.
  • Collaborative development experience on GitHub.

The successful candidate will be appointed at either the Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow level, depending on experience. These positions are temporary and designed to provide training and education in research. Qualified individuals will exhibit potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should aim to become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Research Fellows or Senior Research Fellows sponsored by Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research.
