Chief Risk Officer - Modesto, CA

Position Overview:
The Chief Risk Officer is tasked with leading and directing the organization's risk management and compliance initiatives. This role involves the formulation, enhancement, and ongoing development of comprehensive strategies that span the enterprise, while collaborating with key stakeholders throughout the organization. The position is responsible for mentoring and guiding the Risk Management and Compliance teams, partnering with management to establish and update policies, standards, and training relevant to these areas. Additionally, the Chief Risk Officer will oversee third-party administrator services and insurance programs, ensuring adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations pertinent to the retail grocery sector, distribution, and transportation.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage liability programs across the organization, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Develop and implement risk assessment strategies aimed at minimizing potential losses.
  • Design and execute strategic risk management programs, policies, and procedures for effective claims management.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on Environmental, Health and Safety, and Food Safety regulatory programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Work with senior management to define acceptable risk levels and self-insurance strategies.
  • Oversee claims management strategies in collaboration with third-party administrators.
  • Establish performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of risk management programs.
  • Stay informed on evolving risk, environmental, safety, and food safety regulations.
  • Manage departmental functions, including strategic planning, budget oversight, and staff development.
  • Facilitate the annual actuarial process for reserve evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory changes through comprehensive procedure development.
  • Serve as the Compliance Officer for specific services, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations.
  • Oversee compliance related to restricted products and manage communication with regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate and negotiate the organization’s insurance programs.
  • Identify and manage potential insurance claims effectively.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of potential business exposures.
  • Ensure all reporting requirements are fulfilled.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
