Cornell University, a pioneer in purpose-driven science, seeks a highly skilled Microbiome Researcher to join its College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. As part of the Department of Animal Science, this tenure-track position will focus on advancing our understanding of anaerobic microbiology and rumen ecology to mitigate methane production in ruminants.

Job Overview:

This 9-month, full-time position involves a 50% research and 50% teaching effort split. The successful candidate will lead an internationally recognized and well-funded research program, leveraging contemporary techniques to reveal meaningful interactions between the ruminant microbiome and methanogenesis. They will also contribute to teaching an undergraduate course in ruminant microbiology and participate in cross-campus teaching efforts related to microbiology.

Responsibilities:

  • Research (50%): Develop and maintain an internationally recognized and competitively funded research program focusing on anaerobic microbiology and rumen ecology as it pertains to methanogenesis in ruminants.
  • Teaching (50%): Teach an undergraduate course in ruminant microbiology and participate in cross-campus teaching efforts related to microbiology.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Animal Science, Microbiology, or a related field with expertise in anaerobic microbiology and/or ruminant animal biology.
  • Prior postdoctoral training is preferred but not required.
