Job Summary:

The Multidisciplinary Mental Health Professional serves as a key member of a treatment team providing community-based psychiatric assessment and treatment services to adults and/or children. This role involves providing integrated care, psychiatric treatment, and medication evaluation and management to individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI), developmental disability (DD), and/or Substance Use Disorder (SUD) under the supervision of consulting psychiatrist(s).

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts integrated care, psychiatric treatment, medication assessments, and crisis response to new and existing individuals with SMI, ID, and/or SUD.
  • Develops individual service plans based upon assessment data, and provides therapeutic interventions as necessary, including on-going medication management services.
  • Provides care and treatment management of SMI, DD, and/or SUD, and performs on-call rotation to 24/7 crisis stabilization and emergency services treatment team.
  • Pursues and maintains waiver and completes training to provide Medication Assisted Treatment to individuals with opioid use and substance use disorders.
  • Prescribes psychotropic medications when appropriate for disease management, orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic studies for monitoring of disease progression and pharmacological effectiveness.
  • Completes all documentation required by state law and agency regulations.
  • Provides individualized consultation and health management related to disease management, medication regimen, promotion of wellness, health maintenance, and disease prevention to individuals with SMI, DD, and/or SUD and/or guardians.
  • Participates in continuing education seminars to maintain current state licensure, prescriptive authority, and professional certification, and keeps mandatory training up-to-date.
  • Conducts agency trainings/presentations related to medical topics/issues upon request.

Other Duties:

  • Provides occasional coverage on a rotational basis for other Mount Rogers' services.
  • Performs such other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

Extensive knowledge of the etiology of SMIs, ID, and SUD and their treatment by a variety of appropriate therapeutic interventions, including psychopharmacology, nursing practice, and medical evaluation. Strong clinical skills, including crisis management, and good critical thinking and decision-making skills to evaluate and respond to changes in clients' conditions. Dynamic interpersonal skills and therapeutic communication skills to work effectively with consumers and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Experience/Education Required:

Licensure in Virginia as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner preferred or Family Nurse Practitioner with a minimum of two years' experience working with persons who have SMI, DD, and/or SUD preferred. Valid Driver's License and a safe driving record required.
